The Crooked Moon has a really solid number of folk horror themed character options to sink your teeth into. Many translate easily to other settings too while some are built specifically with the Crooked Moon setting in mind.

There are:

  • 13 species
  • 15 subclasses
  • 13 backgrounds
  • 14 feats
  • 40 spells
  • 13 dark bargains

Dark bargains are the things most D&D players will be unfamiliar with. They are a Crooked Moon invention and provide abilities a bit like feats a player can receive but are gained independently from level progression. Instead, they can be gained when making a deal with a powerful, sinister entity.

You can read our guides to the various Crooked Moon character options below:

The Crooked Moon is set in the land of Druskenvald, a demiplane that exists outside of the mortal realms. In fact it is a place somewhere between mortality and the afterlife.

It’s a place easily recognised by its grinning witch moon (the embodiment of the crooked moon itself). The moon is ever present and the land never truly bathed in the warmth of the sun. Instead, a few hours at dusk provide an orange glow of partial light before darkness consumes the land again.

Druskenvald is perhaps most like a dark fey land like Tepest, one of Ravenloft’s domains of dread.

The Crooked Moon is also the name of the adventure players can play in. It begins with the players embarking on the ghostlight express, a one way ticket to the afterlife. Only for them to end up in Druskenvald where they must navigate a complicated web of evil groups seeking to bring back the former glory of the imprisoned Crooked Queen.
