FAQs

How many races are there in D&D 5e?

Of the offically released races for D&D 5e, there are 48 races and 26 subraces. You can see details for them all in our profiles above.

Which races can fly in D&D 5e?

Only a few playable races in D&D 5e can fly as it’s a very powerful ability, and even those that can fly, often have limitations on this ability. For example, an Aarakocra can fly, but can’t do so while wearing medium or heavy armour. Others, like an Aasimar, have abilities available that give them limited flight time. Flying playable races include:
– Aarakocra
– Fairy
– Owlin
– Tiefling Variant (if taking the winged trait)
– Aasimar (if taking the Radiant Soul trait at 3rd level, also note this flight is only available for a minute once per long rest)
– Gem Dragonbron (once you reach level 5 and is only available for a minute once per long rest)

Honourable mentions should go to the Air Genasi who can cast levitate once per long rest and the Hadozee and Simic Hybrid which are both able to glide.
