Everything announced for the next year of D&D including what comes after D&D 2024 and Project Sigil.
The D&D Direct broadcast on 27th August 2024 brought a bunch of exciting announcements for the future of Dungeons & Dragons. Here’s everything announced.
Two New Forgotten Realms Setting Books
Two new setting books will dive deeper into the lore of the Forgotten Realms, expanding on the rich history and stories Baldur’s Gate, Calimshan, Icewind Dale and more.
These books promise to offer new adventures, character options, and world-building tools that will be used often by both Dungeon Masters and players. The first book will include everything a player might want from the setting while the 2nd book will include dungeon master specific content allowing you to buy the content that works for you.
Dragon Adventure Anthology
A dragon-themed anthology was also revealed, providing a collection of adventures centred around Dragons. The book will explore various aspects of dragon lore, providing ready-to-play stories that bring dragons to the forefront of your campaign.
New Starter Set
A new Starter Set is coming, designed to make it easier than ever for new players to get into Dungeons & Dragons. With simplified rules, pre-made characters, and a beginner-friendly adventure, this set is perfect for those just starting their journey into the world of D&D and that want to start with D&D 2024.
Project Sigil Updates
Project Sigil, the upcoming 3D virtual tabletop platform, received major updates. The platform now includes enhanced character models, customisable environments and stunning visual effects, making online D&D sessions more engaging and moving into the territory of virtual tabletops.
There will also be a closed beta coming soon so we should be able to get our mitts on a version of this in 2024. They also announced plans to get Project Sigil running on multiple platforms including consoles.
It genuinely seems like a brilliant set of tools and looks to build on the promise of creating your adventures in a truly realistic world like in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Looking Forward
These announcements show that the future of Dungeons & Dragons is looking bright. With exciting new content, innovative tools, and continued support for the revised D&D 5e system, there’s plenty to look forward to.
