Wizards is doubling down on video games as a format for D&D, and we’ve got updates for all the currently announced projects.
Fresh off the coat tails of Baldur’s Gate 3’s huge success, Wizards of the Coast seems keen to continue to invest in video games as a format for the D&D IP. With it’s vast and varied worlds and hugely fleshed out fantasy setting, video games make a load of sense, though outside of the Baldur’s Gate franchise, success for D&D video games has sadly been much more muted.
However, I’m a lot more optimistic about the future of D&D video games, and while the news that Baldur’s Gate 4 will not be developed by Larian Studios (as they move onto their own projects) is hugely disappointing, they have created a jumping off point and enthusiasm for new D&D video games, even outside of the TTRPG audience.
Read on to learn the status of all the currently in development D&D video games that have been announced:
Baldur’s Gate 4

Developer: Unknown
Release Date: Unknown
Platforms: Unknown
OK, so it’s not technically in development right now, and we also know that Larian Studios won’t be at the helm of the sequel, but we do know that WOTC is currently courting developers for the sequel. This means we should be getting a sequel, and with the huge success of the Baldur’s Gate 3, it would be insane if a sequel wasn’t in the works.
Project Baxter

Developer: Starbreeze Entertainment
Release Date: 2026
Platforms: All major platforms
Little is known about Project Baxter other than that it’s in development with Starbreeze Entertainment, the developer behind Payday 3. We do know that this is expected to be a co-operative multiplayer game following a game as service model and will have some similarities to other Starbreeze games (while being set in the D&D universe). We also know that the game will be wet in the city of Waterdeep.
We also know it’s planned for release in 2026 on all major platforms using Unreal Engine 5.
Demeo X Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked

Developer: Resolution Games
Release Date: Late 2025
Platforms: PC VR, Playstation VR, Quest (2, 3 and pro), PC and PS5
Resolution Games, the makers of Demeo, the tactical dungeon crawler inspired by classic TTRPGs, are making a D&D VR game working similarly to Demeo
We now know one of it’s campaigns will be set in Neverwinter and will follow a similar gameplay loop to Demeo, but with a greater narrative focus. You’ll be able to pop your VR headset on as if you were at a real gaming table and pick up miniatures and move them around the board for tactical gameplay.
Unnamed Gameloft game

Developer: Gameloft
Release Date: Unknown
Platforms: PC and Consoles
Gameloft, the creators of Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, are working on a survival, life-sim, action-RPG game set in the Forgotten Realms. If that sounds like a big mix of genres, well it is! Having said that, it could describe many D&D campaigns. I suspect that with Gameloft’s credentials, that the life SIM elements may be heavier than we see in many D&D games. My mind went to a D&D-style Stardew Valley when I heard it described.
Unnamed Invoke Studios game

Developer: Invoke Studios
Release Date: Unknown
Platforms: Unknown
Formerly known as Tuque Games, the Wizards of the Coast owned developer is working on a new game set in the D&D universe. This follows the mixed reception of their latest game, Dark Alliance.
While Dark Alliance wasn’t the kind of game to get this D&D enthusiast excited, Invoke Studios is being reformed into a AAA studio, expanding to 200 staff to create what they hope to be bigger and better games.
We know little else about the game other than that it’s in development so watch this space for more updates.
That’s it for now, all the announced video games currently in development set in the D&D universe, but we’ll be sure to update this page as we learn more about these and newly announced projects.
