A titan-hunting setting, compatible with D&D 5e and specifically made for the 2024 rules.
In collaboration with Chris S. Sims (former D&D and Pathfinder designer), Studio Midhall have launched a Kickstarter campaign for their brand new RPG, Beast.
Its called a brand new RPG, but Beast is built almost entirely on the D&D 5e system (using the 2024 rules). I took a look at the preview rules and it adapts and adds a few things into the mix like an altered heroic inspiration system called grudges and altered exhaustion mechanics. But largely, Beast is a brand new setting for the D&D 5e system, separate from the D&D universe, with its own unique lore, monsters and mechanics.
What do we know about the Beast RPG so far?

The Beast RPG appears to have some loosely Norse inspirations. Its main appeal appears to be the titanic beasts that players must overcome. It will bring unique rules for handling such creatures, not unlike the kaiju rules from Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms.
Characters are known as hunters and are already experienced adventurers (starting at level 4). In Beast, pacts aren’t just for warlocks. All hunters gain their power from a pact they’ve made with a spiritual being to help them survive their shattered world.
The Beast system revolves around hunting and being hunted as well as highly co-operative gameplay. The big appeal is the hunting and strategy behind taking down titanic beasts.
What will we get from the Kickstarter?

The Kickstarter hasn’t fully launched yet so rewards haven’t been fully defined. However, from what we can tell from the teaser details, there will be 3 books:
- Hunter’s Guide (like a Player’s Handbook)
- Chronicler’s Guide (like DM’s Guide)
- Beastiary (like a Monster Manual)
Within all of this, there will be loads of new options to play with in the Beast setting including:
- A brand new class, the binder
- 30+ subclasses
- 40+ spells (some of these seem to be alternatives to classic spells)
- Alternative class options (like we had in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything)
- 5+ ancestries (presumably, the equivalent of species)
- 6+ backgrounds
- 15+ feats
- 25+ magic items
- 100+ monsters
- 7+ titanic monsters
- 2+ adventures
- Unique mechanics like grudges, corruption, climbing titans and crafting
- A brand new setting and lore
It’s also worth noting that the artwork looks incredible.
If you think the Beast RPG sounds interesting, you can follow the Kickstarter and sign up for the preview. We’ll be following this project keenly and may look at covering it here on Dungeon Mister.
