Which companion should you romance in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Baldur’s Gate 3 has hit the realms like a storm with unsurprisingly critical acclaim considering the studio developing it (Larian, creators of the excellent Divinity Original Sin games) and the history of the series. It’s been over 20 years since we had to keep swapping discs to play Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 (barring some very welcome remasters) and we’re very ready for a sequel!
Larian have gone all out to make sure players have the option to do whatever they want in this game including some rather detailed and steamy romance options. Of course, the question every player must decide on is which of the 10 available companions should they romance?
Well, we can’t answer that definitively, but perhaps we can help a little. AI has been getting more and more advanced so we thought we’d pop all the companion characters through some algorithms to let them decide who the most attractive Baldur’s Gate 3 companion is to romance. We used attractivenesstest.com to work this out.
It wasn’t particularly fond of non-human or elf races (or characters with big purple tattoos on their faces), but we did manage to get a score for each character after a few tries (with the exception of bear form Halsin, but I think you should already have a pretty good idea of how attractive a bear is). You can see how each of the companions fared in our research below:

Shadowheart is the most attractive BG3 companion

It’s official. AI has announced its winner using scientific algorithms based on standard measures of human beauty, Shadowheart is the most attractive Baldur’s Gate 3 companion. While all the companions were considered to at least have attractive qualities, Shadowheart was the only character to be considered “stunning” in her rating with a score of 8.54, a whole 1.04 points higher than Minthara in 2nd place.
Karlach is the least attractive BG3 companion

With the lowest score, Karlach has been named the least attractive companion in Baldur’s Gate 3. Perhaps it’s those Tieflings horns, that barbarian snarl or her very red complexion, but AI believes she doesn’t fit typical standards of human beauty.
Wyll is the most attractive male companion in BG3

If you’re looking to romance a man in your Baldur’s Gate 3 play through, then Wyll ranks highest among the male companions in the game. While Wyll is a bit of a hunk, it’s surprising to see Astarion just miss out on this crown after so many of you tried (and failed) to romance him!
Minthara is the most attractive non-Human companion

Generally, the AI struggled with characters that weren’t humans or elves, so it’s no surprise to see a drow take this crown (they’re dark elves BTW). Despite her atypical grey skin, Minthara managed to take 2nd spot overall. So if you have a thing for non-humans, Minthara’s your girl (yes, we know Shadowheart is a half-elf, but she’s also half-human so close enough to not count in this one)!
AI preferred new companions over returning companions

Both the returning companions in the series (Minsc and Jaheira) rated near the bottom of the scale (8th and 9th) being judged “beautiful in their own way”. Perhaps it’s the fact that it’s been 100yrs since Baldur’s Gate 2 (using in game time) or maybe Larian just know how to make attractive characters from scratch, either way, AI wasn’t a big fan of the attractiveness of returning companions.
AI surprisingly, considers Githyanki to be attractive!

We must admit, we didn’t see this one coming! She may have not ranked highly on the list, but Lae’zel, the only Githyanki companion, managed a respectable 7th. What’s even more impressive is she was judged as “looking good” by the AI despite being based on traditional human qualities of attractiveness. Of course, we should point out that it took several character photos before we could find one the AI would even assess, so maybe we just used a more human-like image of her.
