Ravenloft: The Horrors Within Arrives June 2026

Wizards of the Coast is returning to the Domains of Dread this summer. After months of relative silence on the 2026 release slate, Wizards of the Coast finally pulled back the curtain at GAMA Expo in March, revealing their first major sourcebook of the year: Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.

The book hits shelves on June 16th, 2026, with pre-orders already open from April 13th. If you’re a D&D Beyond subscriber, you won’t have to wait that long, Master Tier subscribers get access on June 2nd, and Hero Tier subscribers on June 9th.

The Horrors Within is a full campaign setting sourcebook detailing the Ravenloft setting, covering horror-themed subclasses, species, backgrounds, and Dark Gift feats for players, along with details about the Darklords and their Domains of Dread.

The setting last saw a major push in 2021 with the release of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, and this new book is designed to bring everything in line with the 2024 core rulebook era. March 2026 marked the 10th anniversary of Curse of Strahd’s release, arguably the most widely popular 5th edition adventure, making this summer’s release feel even more timely.

Here’s a breakdown of what we know the book contains:

New subclasses

The book features 7 subclasses drawn from the Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana playtest launched in May 2025. The Reanimator Artificer and Hollow Warden Ranger are brand-new, while the College of Spirits Bard, Grave Domain Cleric, Phantom Rogue, Shadow Sorcerer and Undead Patron Warlock are updated versions of fan favourites from 5e 2014.

New species

An early preview confirmed four new playable species: the Dhampir, Hexblood, Lupin, and Reborn. Three of these return from the 2021 sourcebook, while the Lupin is entirely new.

New backgrounds, feats & more

Players can also expect 4 horror-themed backgrounds, 11 new feats, and 68 monsters, including full stat blocks and domain-specific “domain denizens.” Dark Gifts, the grim bargains long associated with Ravenloft lore, are being reimagined as a new category of feats players can choose for their characters.

A familiar face returns

Legendary monster hunter Rudolph van Richten makes his return in The Horrors Within, and the book is being overseen by longtime D&D designer F. Wesley Schneider, who played a key role in developing Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft.

The Horrors Within isn’t arriving alone. Wizards of the Coast is building a new seasonal content model around its major releases, and this book starts the first of those seasons. The Season of Horror runs from April to June 2026, and alongside the main sourcebook, players can also look forward to a new Tarokka Deck, a Ravenloft themed DM screen, and a map pack, all arriving in June.

Pre-ordering the digital version on D&D Beyond also gives you the Mists of Ravenloft Digital Dice Set, a Ravenloft Play Along Pack, and the D&D Encounters: Shadows of Sithicus mini adventure.

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within releases June 16th, 2026. Pre-orders are available via D&D Beyond, local game stores, and Amazon.
