If you’ve ever wanted to play D&D with the vibe of Bloodborne, Steinhardt’s guide to the Eldritch Hunt might be what your table needs. Part of one of the most celebrated third-party supplements in the 5e community has now arrived on D&D Beyond.
What is Steinhardt’s guide to the Eldritch Hunt?

Created by”MonkeyDM”, Steinhardt’s guide to the Eldritch Hunt is a 491-page setting supplement that mixes Soulsborne-style gameplay with Lovecraft horror. It was originally funded on Kickstarter in 2022, where it raised over $2.6 million from nearly 20,000 backers, making it one of the most successful D&D-compatible Kickstarters of all time. The full book was released to the public in 2023 and has built a devoted following ever since.
The setting takes place in Luyarnha, a gothic city consumed by a plague known as the Scourge. Three factions, the Radiant Church, the Godless Scions, and the Shadowy Powers rotting in the city’s underbelly, compete for control as eldritch horrors close in from all sides.
What’s in the Player Pack?

The Steinhardt’s Guide to the Eldritch Hunt Player Pack contains:
- 7 Gothic Subclasses spanning bone-craft, heretical hunts, and eldritch symbiosis.
- 9 Trick Weapons & Firearms each transforming mid-combat to adapt to the hunt.
- 2 Unique Species the porcelain Manikin and the eldritch-maddened Scourgeborne.
- 16 Blasphemous Spells fueled by Osteomancy: bend bone, command spine, and turn your enemies’ skeletons against them.
- A Dying City. Explore Luyarnha, a gothic metropolis consumed by the Scourge, torn between the Radiant Church, the godless Scions, and the factions rotting in its shadow.
Is it worth buying?
That depends on what you’re looking for. If you already own the full Steinhardt’s guide PDF, the Player Pack doesn’t add a lot. You’re largely paying for the D&D Beyond integration, which is useful but may not justify the cost if you’re happy working from the original.
If you’re a D&D Beyond user who hasn’t encountered Steinhardt’s guide before, $14.99 is a reasonable way to try it out. The subclasses and species alone offer a very different flavour to the standard rulebook options, and there are things like trick weapon mechanics and new spells to play with. It’s also worth noting that the full 5.5e PDF from MonkeyDM directly costs $34.99, but this includes considerably more content including the brand new Jaeger class, 21 subclasses (including 4 for the Jaeger), 19 races and subraces, 64 new spells, lore, maps, adventures and more.
For groups who want the full Luyarnha experience, including the monsters, the Jaeger class, the madness system, and the campaign content, you’ll want to look at the complete book rather than stopping at the Player Pack, but its not available on D&D Beyond as of writing (and it’s not clear whether it will come at all).
How does it fit with the current D&D Beyond catalogue?
The arrival of Steinhardt’s guide sits alongside D&D Beyond’s broader push to bring popular third-party content onto the platform in 2026. Interestingly, it launches in the same window as Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, D&D’s own gothic horror release for the Season of Horror. The two products occupy similar territory, but Steinhardt’s guide has a harder, more action-focused edge. Where Ravenloft leans into psychological dread and domain-crawling, Eldritch Hunt is more about hunting monsters with transforming weapons while trying not to lose your mind.
If horror is on your table’s menu this year, there’s now plenty to choose from.
