The Griffon’s Saddlebag collection is now complete on D&D Beyond. With Book Two already on the platform following its December 2024 launch, Book One has now arrived, completing the set and giving Dungeon Masters even more unque loot for their campaigns.
What is The Griffon’s Saddlebag?
Griffin Macaulay (author, and designer of The Griffon’s Saddlebag) has been making magic items every week since November 2018. Those items were eventually collected and expanded into full sourcebooks by publisher Hit Point Press, and the series became one of the more popular 3rd party D&D resources.
Book Two made its D&D Beyond debut in December 2024, adding over 500 magic items, new subclasses and playable species directly into the platform’s character builder. Now book one has been added with a fresh coat of 5.5e paint
What’s inside book one?
The Griffon’s Saddlebag – Book One collects all 365 new magic items from Griffin’s first year of creation, ranging from fun common trinkets to powerful artifacts. Also included are the Feathren, a new griffon-like playable species and 12 new subclasses (one for each core class) plus four campaign agnostic settings that can be dropped into any world.
Rebuilt for the 2024 Rules
The Griffon’s Saddlebag – Book One has arrived on D&D Beyond in its 2024 edition meaning all content has been updated for compatibility with the current 5.5e ruleset from the start. This is a step up from Book Two’s initial launch, which required players on the 2024 rules to make some manual adjustments, espeically around species and backgrounds.
The bigger picture
Book One’s arrival was confirmed as part of D&D Beyond’s Q1 2026 partnered content roadmap, published at the start of the year as part of a broader commitment from Wizards of the Coast to give players clearer advance visibility into what third-party content is coming to the platform.
