Valda’s Spire of Secrets Player Pack 2 is now available on D&D Beyond

Mage Hand Press has built a devoted following over the years, and Valda’s Spire of Secrets is arguably thier best known work. Now, the second Player Pack has arrived on D&D Beyond, adding some new character building options.

Priced at $14.99 and available now in digital format for 5.5e, Valda’s Spire of Secrets Player Pack 2 packs a lot of content into a single release. Seven subclasses, seven familiars, seven feats, seven magic items, and 21 new spells.

The subclass roster is where this pack earns its price of admission. The Magic Missile Mage – a Wizard subclass built entirely around casting Magic Missile – is the kind of chaotic, oddball character concept that only third party content tends to produce. The Urban Druid is equally compelling, bringing the Druid’s connection to the natural world into city environments in a way the core rules have never managed.

Rounding things out is the Pistolero, a new subclass for the Gunslinger class – a quick-draw, bullet-hell approach to ranged combat that should appeal to anyone who has ever wanted their D&D session to feel slightly more like a Western. The Gunslinger class itself is included in the pack.

Familiars have always been a character options that reward creative thinking, and this pack adds seven new options that range from useful to absurd. The Flying Book and Winter Wolf Pup sit alongside the Pet Rock. As a DM, I appreciate any mechanic that makes players attached to something unexpected.

The 21 new spells cover a solid range of styles. Blade cantrips add new melee options for spellcasters and chronomantic tricks like Flashback open up time-manipulation roleplay.

The seven feats are creative to. Pyromaniac delivers explosive damage for anyone with a fire fixation, while Metabolistic Magic lets you convert Hit Point Dice into spell slots – an unusual and potentially powerful option for the right build.

Pistolero fires off a shot – Mage Hand Press

Valda’s Spire of Secrets has always done something that the best third-party content does well – it commits to a tone. Player Pack 2 continues that tradition.

At $14.99 for digital access, it is a low-risk addition to your D&D Beyond library and a high-reward one if you have players who are starting to feel like they have seen everything the core books have to offer. The Pistolero alone might be worth the price of entry for the right table.
