Darrington Press launches their answer to D&D’s Unearthed Arcana
Daggerheart is making waves in the TTRPG community, not just for its unique narrative first design, but also for the introduction of The Void, its official public playtest system.
From new classes to entirely new mechanics, this initiative reflects Daggerheart’s commitment to player-driven storytelling and design transparency. This is especially impressive when you consider that new playtest material has arrived on the same day the game has launched!
What is The Void?
Much like Dungeons & Dragons’ Unearthed Arcana, The Void allows players to get their hands on experimental material, test it out and provide valuable feedback to help shape new releases.
At its core, The Void is a digital hub where players can access downloadable playtest content, including:
- New classes and subclasses
- Alternative ancestries
- Experimental communities
- Novel adversaries, loot, and weapons
Players can test this material during their regular games and then submit structured feedback through surveys, offering the designers insight.
Playtest spotlight: warlock and fighter
Currently, The Void is showcasing two new Daggerheart classes; the Warlock and the Fighter. Each includes distinct subclass paths and mechanical identities.
Warlock
Daggerheart’s warlock embraces the dark pacts with a strong narrative core. Like D&D, warlocks are tied to a patron, but in Daggerheart they grants two Boon; mechanical advantages tied to their domain. Warlocks build and spend Favor, a resource earned through Tithing, reflecting how devoted, or neglectful, they are to their patron. If a Warlock neglects their obligations, the Game Master gains Fear, potentially turning the narrative against them. There are two subclasses available, path of the endless and path of the wrathful.
This version of the Warlock focuses less on traditional spell slots and more on Favor economy, fueled by tithing.
Fighter
Daggerheart’s Fighter is a tactician, capable of combat feats through combo strikes and stances. Fighters can push their damage output using a rolling combo die, encouraging daring maneuvers with risk and reward. The two subclasses for testing are the juggernaut and martial artist.
Get involved
Whether you’re drawn to the arcane intrigues of the Warlock or the battlefield mastery of the Fighter, now is the time to step into The Void, and help shape the next steps of Daggerheart.
